Before we get started, let’s applaud conquistador era-themed Age of Discovery for its excellent fruit symbols. While lots of online casinos/software suppliers seem to have forgotten the slot roots and/or are totally obsessed with that dull poker run, Age of Discovery is loaded with tasty avocado, banana, guava and other yummy New World symbols. Yes – someone at Microgaming gets it and this particular game is one of the prettiest ones this year.
Not only that but Age of Discovery features one of the most listenable background scores that we’ve heard this year as well: creaky, straining timbers from the boat and lapping ocean sounds best not heard by those players who may be prone to seasickness (you tend to automatically reach for the dimenhydrinate).
After playing for quite some while, we encountered the intriguing "Treasure Bonus" round, which takes us further into Age of Discovery’s cartography sub-theme. What you have to do is pick the X’s on a map of colonized areas until the skull and crossbones kills your gold fever – I netted 15,250 doubloons ($762.50) on a $12.50 bet. Even though it may take you some time to trip this round, stick around in the Age of Discovery pub fruitie; exploring the Americas wasn’t done in a day either, you know.
